Questionnaire survey of Hong Kong International Autumn lighting show 2017: the prospect of home lighting products is optimistic
the Hong Kong Trade Development Council conducted a questionnaire survey during the Hong Kong International Autumn lighting show 2017 and the Hong Kong International Outdoor and technological lighting Expo 2017. The results showed that the prospects of the lighting market in 2018 were still optimistic, with Asian markets regarded as the overseas lighting markets with the most growth potential, including Japan, mainland China and ASEAN countries
the interviewed lighting industry expects that the home lighting market will remain prosperous in the foreseeable future. Among them, consumers need to replace old lighting products, which is expected to drive the demand for indoor home lighting products. At the same time, with consumers' increasing awareness of environmental protection, LED products are expected to be very popular, and intelligent technology is expected to continue to promote the development of the lighting industry
Hong Kong International Autumn lighting exhibition 2017 and Hong Kong International Outdoor and technological lighting Expo 2017 have been held from October 27 to 30 and October 26 to 29, respectively. The research department of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council visited 386 buyers and 250 exhibitors on the spot to understand the views of people in the industry on the prospects of the lighting market and product trends in the coming years
the lighting market grew steadily
the respondents were optimistic about the lighting market outlook in 2018. 95% of the buyers and 97% of the exhibitors surveyed expect their sales to increase or remain unchanged in the coming year. Among them, exhibitors are more confident in the market prospect, and 59% of respondents expect to record sales growth, only slightly lower than 62% of the spring lighting exhibition in April 2017. In contrast, 40% of the surveyed buyers expect sales to rise, while only 5% of buyers and 3% of exhibitors are pessimistic about the sales prospects for the coming year
in terms of the growth prospects of overseas markets, Japan is expected to be the traditional market with the best prospects in the coming year. 86% of the lighting industry respondents who do business locally rated the local growth prospects as "ideal" or "very ideal". Taiwan is not to be outdone. The growth prospects were rated as "ideal" or "very ideal" by 82% of the respondents. In contrast, the South Korean market looks inferior, with only slightly more than half (53%) of the respondents expressing confidence in its short-term growth prospects. In terms of emerging markets, the prospects of mainland China and ASEAN countries are the most promising, with 93% and 85% of respondents expressing confidence in local growth prospects respectively
home lighting
29% of the respondents believe that home lighting will maintain a booming sales in 2018, and is expected to become the lighting product category with the highest growth. The ratio is significantly higher than 18% of the lighting exhibition in terms of taking the car wheels driving on the road in the spring of April 2017; LED and environmental lighting followed, with 24% of respondents believing that the growth potential is the greatest. In addition, the proportion of respondents who choose commercial lighting and outdoor lighting has also increased significantly, with the former rising from 4% in April 2017 to 16% (1) the overall production and operation of the industry is stable, while the latter has increased from 3% to 12%. In the April survey, 38% of the respondents expected that lighting accessories and parts would be the lighting product category with the highest growth, but the upsurge seemed to have generally cooled down. In this survey, only 7% of respondents expect the lighting product category to record growth
high demand for replacement of indoor home lighting
consumers need to replace old lighting products, which has always been an important factor driving the demand for LED products. Perhaps because of this, the lighting industry mentioned above is the most optimistic about the sales of home lighting products. More than half (55%) of the respondents believe that in the next two years, indoor home lighting will be the most beneficial category in this demand for replacement lamps, a slight increase from 48% in the spring lighting exhibition in April 2017. Other product categories that may benefit include indoor office and commercial lighting (30%), outdoor lighting (except signs and advertising lamps, 21%) and indoor industrial lighting (21%), while automotive and transportation lighting is the least likely to benefit from the demand for replacement products
the improvement of environmental protection awareness drives the demand for LED lighting
in recent years, consumers' environmental protection awareness has increased day by day. Major markets such as the United States, the European Union, mainland China and Australia have completely banned the sale of incandescent bulbs with poor environmental protection efficiency. Most respondents (84%) believed that banning the sale of incandescent bulbs would drive the sales of other lighting products. Among these respondents, 67% believed that the sales of LED products could benefit from this, while the rest believed that integrated electronic compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) benefited the most
intelligent lighting
at present, many industries are committed to introducing intelligent technology, and the lighting industry is no exception. The vast majority of respondents (93%) believed that smart technology would promote the development of the lighting industry in the next two years, a slight increase from 92% in the spring lighting exhibition in April 2017. Among these respondents, slightly more than half (53%) believed that the home lighting system that can communicate with smart/tablet computers or be manipulated had the most development potential, higher than 45% in April. In addition, 40% of the respondents believe that the home/industrial/commercial intelligent lighting system, which mainly aims at saving electricity and energy, has the development potential to formulate material technical specifications that meet the needs of high-speed rail transit
Hong Kong suppliers performed well
the survey results showed that buyers were more satisfied with the performance of Hong Kong lighting product suppliers than earlier this year. During the survey, buyers should rate their satisfaction in nine main areas. The score is based on a five point system. One point means very dissatisfied, and five points means very satisfied. Hong Kong suppliers scored the highest in terms of compliance with safety regulations or guidelines and services, both at 4.06 points, higher than 3.88 and 3.79 points respectively at the spring lighting show in April 2017. In addition, Hong Kong suppliers have good scores in terms of compliance with environmental regulations or guidelines (4.05) and product quality (4.03)
